A brand new fishing lodge is emerging by the river Selá in Vopnafjordur. It covers 960 sq.m.and has ten spacious rooms for fishers and comfortable quarters for staff. The lodge has been given the name of “FOSSGERÐI” and is situated close to the lower waterfall. All the rooms have wonderful views of glorious pools. The lodge will be opened on June 22 in time for the start of the 2012 season.

The architect of the lodge is Helgi Hjálmarsson and the engineering design is by Gústaf Vífilsson of Teiknistofan Óðinstorg in Reykjavík. All the building work has been done by local craftsmen.

A new leasing agreement has been signed by the Strengur Angling syndicate and the Sela River Association. For the next ten years Strengur will have the exclusive fishing rights of the river Selá and this will continue their uninterrupted lease of the river since 1966.

Selá is an outstanding example of what proper salmon conservation can achieve when abundance is the prime objective. Nets have been phased out, fish ladders installed and spawning stock strengthened and all this is supported by sanctuary agreements that reach out to the feeding grounds.

Selá is now reputed to be one of the world´s best salmon rivers. A great many anglers visit the river year after year and we are delighted that many of them have been regulars for decades as members of our invitation only Wish List. All these dedicated people are now invited to renew their registration requests.
